Who operates this directory
The Texas Authors Directory is a program of the Texas Authors Museum & Institute of History. It maintains a public literary directory and provides account tools for authors and authorized representatives.
Information we collect
When an account is created or a profile is claimed, we may collect a name, email address, encrypted password, authorization or identity-verification information, and the author record connected to the request.
Public author profiles may contain an author or pen name, biography, portrait, Texas city or region, genres, reader audiences, books, book covers, ratings, awards, and website or sales links. Information intentionally submitted for a public profile is displayed publicly after approval.
Our hosting provider may record basic technical information, such as an IP address, browser type, requested pages, and timestamps, for security and operation of the website.
How information is used
Information is used to operate the directory, authenticate accounts, review profile claims, approve submissions, publish and correct author records, prevent misuse, communicate about account activity, and maintain the historical integrity of the archive.
How information is shared
We do not sell personal information. Public profile information is visible to directory visitors. Information may also be processed by service providers used for hosting, storage, security, or transactional email, subject to their service terms. We may disclose information when legally required or when reasonably necessary to protect the directory, its users, or the public.
Links to author, retailer, sponsor, and other third-party websites are governed by those websites’ own privacy practices.
Security and retention
Passwords are stored as encrypted hashes rather than readable passwords. Access to administrative functions is restricted. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Account and profile information is retained while needed to operate and preserve the directory, resolve disputes, document approvals, or meet legal obligations. Because this is a literary archive, removal of an account does not automatically require removal of an accurate historical author record.
Your choices and requests
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal account information. Authors may update approved profile information through the Author Portal. Requests concerning a public record are reviewed in light of accuracy, authorization, archival integrity, and applicable law.

Children’s privacy
The account system is not directed to children under 13, and children under 13 should not create an account or submit personal information. References to children’s books or reader audiences do not mean the account service is intended for children.
Policy changes
This policy may be updated as the directory, its service providers, or applicable requirements change. The effective date above identifies the current version.
